E-RUBRIC

The instrument we will be using to measure the learning of our students will be an E-rubric

The Learning Analytics Enriched Rubric (LA e-Rubric) is an advanced granding method used for criteria-based assessment. As a rubric, It consists of a set of criteria. For each criterion, several descriptive levels are provided. A numerical grade is assigned to each of these levels.

An enriched rubric contains some criteria and related granding levels that are associated to data from the analysis of learners' interaction and learning behavior in a Moodle course, such as number of post messages, times of accesing learning material, assignments grades so on.

Using learning analytics from log data that concern collaborative interactions, past grading performance and inquiries of course resources, the LA e-Rubric can automatically calculate the score of the various levels per criterion. The total rubric score is calculated as a sum of the scores per each criterion.

Self-evaluation with ERubrica

Self-evaluation is to make a self-analysis about the work done to solve some task. When a person evaluates himself, he does so based on a theme, for example (The mastery of the ball, which he made a drawing so well, how was his performance in class, etc.). However, when a person evaluates (teacher, instructor, etc.) the self-evaluation process carried out by another person, he must use another instrument.

The advantages of self-evaluation are many and today they are underutilized. With the ERubrica platform it is possible to carry out instruments for self-assessment in a very simple and fast way. Giving the teacher the possibility of focusing on other aspects such as (The establishment of the relationship between criteria, aspects that represented difficulty to the student in the test, among others). Some advantages of self-assessment activities:

Reinforces the mastery of the topics (When self-evaluating it is necessary to know the topic).
It allows the student to develop the activities by himself.
It is ideal for distance and virtual modalities.
Increases student interest and empathy.
It allows to reinforce the knowledge.
You learn to self-evaluate.

ERubrica instruments for self-assessments

1. ERubrica checklists
With a checklist the student can perform an activity and verify compliance with certain criteria that allow him to ensure a high level of quality. In a previous article we detailed how we can create Checklists and allow students to clone them and be able to self-evaluate. So that teachers can follow up on each student individually.

2. The Evaluation Rubrics

Another instrument that can be used to carry out self-assessments is the rubric. Below we make a list of some recommendations that you can take into account when preparing a rubric for self-evaluation:

Write the criteria in the first person (I made, I care, I recognize, etc.).
Use ordinal Likert scales such as (Excellent, Good, regular...), (A lot, a lot, a little, nothing), (Always, almost always, never).
You can make rubrics with different Likert scales to make it more personalized.
Add scores to the various criteria.

3. Detail well the indications of the Activity

When conducting an educational activity, the student may not be familiar, so he may not be honest with the answers he details. It is important to indicate that aspects of the self-evaluation activity will be evaluated, such as those detailed above (Honesty, quality in the comments "Even number of words per paragraph", mastery of the topic, etc). Many times the student does not correctly perform the self-assessment out of fear, even at higher levels, because the teacher applies the instrument as a punishment. Remember, as obvious as they may seem, the details should not be ignored! The student may want to make biased answers out of fear, ignorance of the subject or simple disinterest.
